I use letter stencils often in my journal pages and have wanted letter stencil stamps so I am carving them, inspired by this months crusade....
Michelle's challenge is using words in our journal pages and artwork. I often use words in different ways. Above words cover parts of the page graffiti like...
I often use writing in a stream of consciousness to manifest thoughts and create an all over texture...I can not often decipher what I wrote but the intent is there...and I remember it on some level when I look back on the pages.
these pages were created late late one sleepless night...a meditation on first drawing the lines then writing, again in a stream of consciousness...
and....yes....I can even manage to misspell words when laying out stencils!!
I am multi talented indeed...
my journal experiments often find their way into finished pieces...here writing on the symbolism of the Lily streams across the background of this piece.

I've been sitting on my hands...ITCHING to play with some paint, but I cannot find ANYTHING at this point. Fingers crossed that in a week or so I'll be moved into the new space and can get busy!

In the meantime I'm getting my painting fix over at Michelle Wards Brush Effects Crusade. I'll share some monoprints from my stash, then when I get a space cleared and I can FIND my paints and brayer I'll come play again....fresh...
I photograph prints in each stage as well as the monoprint plate, then I can play with them in photoshop to come up with even more pages that I can use to stamp or collage with more paint or tin. This is a new plate after a couple of prints, I liked the texture on the plate better than the print.

I create even more images by zooming into an area then multiplying the pattern in photoshop.

Michelle Ward's Crusade this month is the Scent of the Season, both current and/or past scents and to make a journal page about it. I have a sensitive (scentsitive) nose and don't tend to enjoy many scents....I prefer unscented soy candles, or very subtle ...
but, isn't it interesting how smells, like music, have the power to transport?
I haven't done a Crusade challenge in a while, and there are a few more days left this month, so let's do it. This past couple of weeks I have been cleaning and clearing out mass amounts of 'stuff'....in this process I found a bottle of perfume that I used to adore....Love's Oriental Amber Musk, I remember it made me feel exotic and dark and smokey
there is still something in the bottle....
the spray nozzle still works....
OHHHHH MANNNNN, if this was at one time a good scent, it is now soooo strong and has permeated every molecule of the air in our home.
It did though bring back a flood of memories...early '70's...a cold, crisp, snowy winter, friends...boys

Spending all my time making new work for the Spring show.....but.....I thought I could share how I have used this pear and leaf stencil that I cut earlier for this months GPP Street Team Challenge.
I used it along with my hand cut stamps on these new Fruity Goddess pieces. I look forward to all the inspiration I'll get by visiting the stencil cutting explorations and will Play and Spray.......in May!

New Tools.....
For my first stamp I carved a copy of a 'borrowed' stamp. I've been using this a lot and knew I wanted the shape for my own. Cutting out the tiny circles....a bit of a challenge....any hints? There is probably a special tool for this.
I had an easier time cutting these circles....my next stamp?....a mask for a henna hand and a carved patterned henna hand....

it's a journal, with colorful and DREAM-y photographs, open hands...lovin' this theme....lots of different types of papers. I already started my first page. This will live in my big bag, that goes everywhere with me. I decided a small journal kit was required.....only a few items....
glue stick, little scissors, some pens....in a little rodrigvitz style bag...to record daily life on the run....

the perfect tin for my traveling journaling kit for Michelle's GPP Street Team challenge. It contains the gel pens I like to use, caran d'ache crayons (must have those) scissors (better find some travel scissors), glue stick.....some glitter glue. Gathering words that I'll be using....see, I'll be needing this kit when we travel to Tess's college graduation in June. COLLEGE graduation...what??? how did THAT happen??
It will fit perfectly in my big bag and there's plenty of room for that Kleenex that I'll be needing too.
ahhh Michelle Ward's challenge this month....make a journaling kit, open Pandora's box. This girl...and ALL you all (no, but I have a friend from the south, it rubs off) are such a huge inspiration to me! See....I have always had sketchbooks...
