Lingering in Happiness

After rain after many days without rain,

it stays cool, private and cleansed, under the trees,

and the dampness there, married now to gravity,

falls branch to branch, leaf to leaf, down to the ground

where it will disappear-but not, of course, vanish

except to our eyes.  The roots of the oaks will have their share,

and the white threads of the grasses, and the cushion of moss;

a few drops, round as pearls, will enter the mole's tunnel

and soon so many small stones, buried for a thousand years, 

will feel themselves being touched.

Spring...bird life and death

The yard around the Mango Studio begins to come alive...bits of green among the brown leaves.  Mr R brought a found gift...

as new bird song begins to fill the air, remains of a beautiful creature...a gift of fragile life.

A Bright Night

The full Harvest Moon pours into my bedroom window, it coincides with the autumnal equinox in the northern hemisphere...

Fall is here....

daylight hours balanced with night time hours...

in addition to the fall harvest moon, Jupiter is very close to earth and appears as the brightest light in the sky, it will not be this close to earth again until 2022.

This fall time is a time for grounding, balancing and celebrations, the farmers markets are full, the Chinese celebrate the Moon Festival, it is the start of Sukkot...giving thanks for the fall harvest.  We talked in yoga about this balancing effect, eggs that balance on their ends...day and night in balance... do we feel more balanced?

I will marvel at the moon light, practice my balance postures and visit the farmers market, I'd love to hear how will you celebrate this fall harvest time and celestial event...

Still hot days but cooling evenings and sunsets at 7:30 tell the story.

Biking and Shore Birds...Chapter Two

Bay City has a beautiful river trail system that goes for miles and miles...over the river

and through the woods...

passing by much needed ice cream shops

zig zagging over the Saginaw River

sometimes pausing to let the big ships pass under.

and ending finally at the beach at Saginaw Bay.  The beach is sadly very polluted, signs warned of dangerous 'muck'...

still people were in the water as Mr R captured this rather third world looking scene out across the bay.

All along we are joined by the many shore birds...these Heron provided much fun and a much needed rest (biking in heat and HIGH humidity is not something we are used to)

we kicked back for a bit and took in the sights

of these leggy birds...

as they put on a show for us.

 

then back on the bikes to take us back...

Curious Creatures

The White Lined Sphinx Moth has been immortalized in a new work for the Longmont Studio Tour Preview show....this is an in progress peek.  The wings and body of this moth are as soft as mink, she kept slipping from my fingers as I tried to arrange her properly in her shrine.

I was visited by this creature...the Ichneumon Wasp, Friday night.

I of course had no idea it was an Ichneumon Wasp...you cannot really tell how LARGE this wasp is from the photo....it is at least 4" from her head to the tip of her ovipositor...and of course I had never heard of an ovipositor either until this morning when I called my young neighborhood insect specialist over to both take and identify the specimen....

I would not mind having her back in the Mango Studio if she passes of natural causes but really have no desire to see her on my porch again.

Sprouting

Rain...humidity, now heat are bringing otherwise dormant worlds to life.  This little crop could not have been more than 1 1/2" high...one day here, then gone.
