Feel inspired? Let's take action against world hunger

Our aim with "The Meal" is to inspire a feeling of community across geographic and cultural boundaries, while addressing the statement that "you are what you eat." However, for nearly a billion people around the world, hunger is a constant daily reality and "what you eat" is never enough. In conceiving of this project, our thoughts immediately turned to the chronic problem of global hunger and the amazing organizations that struggle against this persistent crisis. We would love to direct participants in the project to support Action Against Hunger, one of the world's most effective and efficient nonprofit organizations. Take a look at the many ways to get involved today.

Sketchbook Project and JOY in Seattle

I was part of the 2011 Sketchbook Project and traveled to Seattle to meet SomePinkFlowers to see it...

and Ms Lady Bug Circus...who gratiously shared many of the favorite spots in her city with us.

The project is incredibly organized...one line to get your library card, once you have a card you can step into the line to check out sketchbooks, we had some books that we wanted to check out...

like Frans beautiful book...how cool is this!

the runners are kept busy pulling books from the stacks.  Once your library card is scanned an email is sent to the sketchbook owner sharing that your book has been checked out.

we lounged in chairs perusing over all the books....Ms Oceandreamers was a treat...

as was Jenny's fabulous sketchbook, we can see first hand how her mind works and lays out ideas for her next tin piece.

the intricate layers of grids and lines that is the sketchbook of Ms Parobolic Muse...yes! we held them ALL in our hands!

Such JOY to see so many...young and old alike pouring over the thousands of books. 

Sketchbooks...on Tour

The Sketchbook Project journals filled the bookshelves in the Brooklyn Art Library...mine was there, along with over 28,000 others!

Now the tour has begun...leaving Brooklyn on Feb 28th.  Visitors to either the library or the tour venues get a library card and can search for books by artist name, theme, state or region.  When a sketchbook gets checked out the artists receive an email notification.  I was THRILLED to get such an email when Moe checked out my journal.

The sketchbooks in Brooklyn, hey, I think I see mine...no, well,

once they were placed in the bookshelves for the opening...

they were taken right back out to head out on the road. 

Thanks to Seth Apter for allowing me to use his images from his visit.  I get to see the tour on the road when it hits Seattle in June before settling permanently back in Brooklyn.  If you happen to live near Brooklyn or one of the tour sites check it out...and check out mine.

It Must be....Moo for YOU

I am done! with my Arthouse Sketchbook...for my last pages I created little pockets to fit in Moo cards

This batch of Moo cards came in a sweet little box with rolex type dividers...for yours and mine.

I included a little message of thanks for picking up my journal and my contact info so I know who has viewed my journal.  I hope to catch a site on the 'tour' to re-visit the journal once it leaves the Mango Studio because after that it will forever live in the Brooklyn Art Library.

It Must Be....

 
It must be...is the theme of my Sketchbook Project journal

I sat in the glow of candles...drawing in my Sketchbook Project journal...a page in anticipation of the first candle for the first night of Hanukkah.  I have photos of Tess lighting candles for the past 26 years...so sweet to savor those. 

She knows she'll have to come over for a photo before the last candle is lit.

Red Rocks, Starry Skies and Sketchbooks

I brought home so much more than bits of feather, flowers and seedpods...held in my little journal.

The sight of red and orange bluffs against the blue sky...

pages of paintings shared by the other women, along with mine and plenty of room to write down all my impressions.

The sky so full of stars, the milky way stretching across one side and down the other...

a gift to whom ever sits with my journal, It Must Be... Ghost Ranch, for the Sketchbook Project.

Drawing the specimens finding their way into the Mango Studio and my mind is whirling with ideas for using them in future cabinet of curiosity work...

the Sketchbook Project journal has landed in my hands...and it is a curious thing to think this will be sent out into the world, never to return.  Plans to join the journal in Seattle next year and peruse them with her and her....maybe you'll join us?
