Another favorite month of mine is fast approaching...October, with its rich gold, red, rust and marigold colors. It's not visions of sugar plums that dance in my head but colorful sugar skulls and Day of the Dead festivities.
Thanks to my sweet neighbor Chris I am kept in as many marigolds as I need. Today I went picking...
to gather blooms for the upcoming Dia de Bloglandia event as well as to feed my ideas for my shrine for Rebecca's Shrine auction. Rebecca has extended the time for the auction in hopes of getting MORE loving hearts to participate.
Please feel free to grab the buttons and my right side bar to use on your sites to help spread the word.
Last year I painted the marigolds with mod podge to enable me to use them on shrines and artwork. It worked well, but was hard to 'paint' the buds. This year I experimented with making a mixture of watered down mod podge and dipping the flower heads. I'll let you know how this works...In the meantime, Happy Happy October!
I'll have to try that on my roses! I was going to try it over some petals on some art but haven't gotten around to it! Those marigolds are Beauty Full!! Good Luck with those gorgeous flowers!

I've got pots of marigolds that I am taking the seeds from when they dry for next years growth. How wonderful that you have so many marigolds. There are so many varieties. I like the yellow and the orange marigolds. Happy October to you too.

Stephanie; my daughter works with a woman who works at the Huntington. She also works on the rose parade every year; so I took the opportunity to ask her what glues she uses (so that I could use these in my Scatterlings). It appears that there are different kinds of glues for different kinds of petals. Wishing I would have had that resource years ago! With my Scatterlings I had to take it by trial and error - like you are doing.

I was thrilled beyond belief when I spotted a big pot of Marigolds in my Mother's neighbor's yard...mine drowned.
While I was in Taos I saw strings dried Marigolds around a door frame of a store...they were selling them for $35.00 a string...about 1 1/2 yard long.
I thought of you :) xoxo

Hi Stephanie, I just noticed that my URL is wrong at the bottom of the page. I corrected it and I hope it sticks.

So beautiful~ I lok forward to seeing if the water downed modge podge works. It might work in a spray bottle as well. Years ago I tried drying flowers and used silica gel and it worked great in preserving the flower and it's color.
