A few days ago my camera died...my trusty, tried and true... old friend. It felt perfect in my hand, it was always there, so comfortable.
As luck would have it Mr R had just purchased the newest model, beautiful camera I'm sure...but, not mine, so many changes.
It's a learning curve....
I snapped this photo of a new dancing chicken piece...in progress; this was last image before the never ending error messages began. (sob sob)
I have read and re-read the user's guide, I'm just not getting it. There are function dials just where my fingers want to hold the camera and I'm not sure what happens when I accidentally push them.
I will continue to play, to try different settings....to enjoy the last day of our beautiful weather.
My heart goes out to you. I don't feel like I can give you any advice because you certainly know a lot about photography. But I will say that soon you will start having aha moments and it will all be okay...

Oh how I understand. My husband bought me a professional Nikon a few years ago. I was and still am over whelmed with everything it can do.
To his dismay it stays on autopilot most of the time. Works for me. :)

My sympathy on the loss of your old friend.
It's hard, once you get a good working relationship, to switch to something different.
I love my little camera. I carry it everywhere with me, and I bet I have taken tens of thousands of pics with it. It makes a bit more noise when the lens extends, but so far, it keeps on trucking.
I will be tempted to buy a new one of the same (now elderly) model when it dies; it has done such a good job for me........... (thank goodness for ebay, so I will probably have the option of a new old one!)
I just had a thought -- one time my camera got confused. I was getting constant errors, too. I can't remember exactly what I did (trying all kinds of different things), but it did wake up and remember how to behave................
I am sure that I changed modes on it while it was turned off. Changing from macro to regular, or maybe even to video. I don't know if it was "just" turning it off and on multiple times (and removing and changing the batteries), or if changing modes and having it off and on in different modes made a difference...................

Oh, girl...I so hear ya. And have been there. Wait...I am STILL there. But you are a photog wiz. You will be plying us with even more beautiful than ever photos in no time. I know it.
What kind did you have?...may she rest in peace.

Oh, I feel your loss. A while ago my camera died on me too, and I've spent the last year trying to get it right with the new one.
You can do it - experiment and take notes of what you've done.
Good luck!
Kate
