new work...scarabs making concentric rings, dropped in a sea of beads....start of a series of little mystical, spiritual treasure boxes...
shown here with a peek of the Loteria piece...both finished.
I tend to combine different ritualistic, spiritual, folkart images and concepts in my work. When I was working on my Virgen series my sweet Mr R said jokingly, 'you can't just make up virgins'....well, yes I can.
So was thinking I like Alt-Ethnic to describe my work in loo of mixed media....
thoughts?
fits both your art and you! love the new work..

thoughts ? YES
love that "label"
I love that you can make up virgins
and that you can march scarabs across wood with beads rippling out
and it becomes a little altar
So much fun in your pieces
while flashing in on a deeper level
for the eyes that LOOK and the heart that Sees.
BEAUTIFUL
love that Alt-Eth
I laughed
Reminded of Mr. Adelstein - Anc. Civ professor
"Thought ? Comments ? Feelings ? Reactions ?"
ps. Please keep going , make MORE of your Alt Ethnic

Stephanie, These are wonderful, I love them. I love the circles of beads around the scarabs and the icon feeling to them. It's so hard to put a name on the whole process but this is beyond mixed-media. Alt-Eth is not enough either in my opinion.

I don't know much about anything (at least I am honest, right?) but I DO know those beaded rings are mesmerizing...really great! Love the assemblage.

I REALLY like this. This is something I would hang on my walls even though it doesnt match the other art I own. But I wouldnt care, because I just like to hang up stuff that appeals to me regardless of whether it all matches or not.

Alt-Ethnic is perfect. You are creating your own spiritual tradition. Love the spiritual treasure box!

I like the term Alt-Ethnic but the feeling I get when I gaze upon your wonderful, playful, color-drenched work is ethnic merging, the coming together of influences that draw from the deepest spiritual source that feeds all traditions.
That's what your work says to me, Steph. It whispers, "we're only different on the surface."

Okay, that box with the beaded carpet and the little curtainy top, and, well, I don't know how to describe it except that it's yummy. Alt-Ethnic is appropriate. It also lends a sense of mystery.

very nice. sometimes i have a hard time using things that i buy to create with. You never have a problem with that kind of thing.
I saw the terms "infused ethnic" while out an about

Alt-Ethnic works wonderfully to describe your work. I love your scarab beetles in the beaded pond and the box. So beautiful!
