We saw so much incredible artwork in Santa Fe and had many moments of pure serendipitous magic.
One such moment was meeting Luis and Maria Blanco. Katy met him a couple of years ago and hoped he would be there. He was!!! Luis has been coming to Jackalope for over 20 years where he sets up shop and creates his fanciful clay work. Luis and his wife Maria come from Atzompa Oaxaca where he learned this craft from his mother Teodora Blanco. Their work can be found in Santa Fe's International Folk Art Museum as well as many other museums and collections.
Maria, as she worked on a plump chicken, handed me a pair of calla lily blooms she had just formed and said 'for you' as soon as I walked up to admire at their work.
A couple of fat angels and a tiny chicken came home with me as well as the knowledge that there is more in this world to give me a feeling of well being than a credit rating.
the goodness you are speaking of is a heart filler, touching me with its generosity even as the reader. may joy infuse your heart every time your eyes fall on the angel and tiny chicken. forever.

Looks like it was a very nice day. I love the idea of working with clay as they do. Very kind of Maria to gift you with Calla lilys. I love the little plump angel you brought home. I've been making some skulls with some clay I had sitting around. Anyway, great outing. Take care/have a great week. Got to go and get info on the iPads2.

I've had a trip to Santa Fe on my mind lately, and seeing your pictures is igniting the spark. I adored the SOFA show in New York, so many highly original pieces--how fun to catch it in Santa Fe.
