The end of the season, there is great beauty in decay...
We harvested a bounty! of vegetables...tomatoes, beans hidden within the vines, a perfect eggplant, some lemon cucumbers...
these squash, that we are not at all sure of the variety...I need to roast one and see what it tastes like...
marigold 'bushes' off to the compost pile...
the magic of digging in the dirt and finding potatoes.
It went so quickly...this growing season...snow in the forecast for tomorrow. A fresh eye to see the beauty that awaits us next.
Tomatillos...that I used to make a green salsa
a recipe from my Mexico cooking class.
Wonderful, just wonderful. It looks so great and so much fun. I love that you garden. It's a good feeling. Don't you save those marigolds?? There are seeds in the flower and they will grow next year. I save all my seeds once the marigold drys and make sure they are dry before I bag them for next year. Wonderful post Stephanie. Oh, and I had a question about El Dia, if I may...will you be providing the linky for us to leaves our link?? Just wondering. Have a great day.

The fresh tomatillo salsa should warm the heart durning the snow to come.
Have a great day.

I love this time of year
we are harvesting
the maple felled by Irene
good wood for the wood stove
I have gathered potatoes
waiting to become soup
your tomatillo salsa looks divine
we grew lots in '95
and made salsa - a huge pot
that my Mom and I devoured
a few hours before Boone was born...
remembering,

You all gleaned your harvest W O N D E R F U L !! Have you see The Gleaners and I, the French documentary?
Dear Steph, Bb told me what happened to your home and I am SO sorry to hear!! Esp with your weather conditions!! Are things going to be alright soon?
Also, I want you to know I may participate in your celebration for Dia de los Muertos, but may not. No matter what, I will be by to see ALL the shrines for loved ones and leave to leave a marigold for each great soul!

OHHHH!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!
I think, am pretty sure, your squash is Kabocha, which I grow too. Very very yummy for cooking with. Also, trickily easy to cook in the microwave, if you use a micro? I know many don't, including my mom, but you can have soft squash to slather in butter and brown sugar in 10 minutes. 5 cooking with holes punctured throughout take out and cover in foil, 5 mins tightly covered in foil steaming. Then slice like butter, and eat ;)
Oh, what a beautiful breathtaking bounty!!!
Love, V
