More of our recent trip to the Hudson River Valley...DIA, as in Denver International Airport...sliver of a moon and an early start.
Beacon is a small community on the east side of the Hudson River...lots of cafes, art galleries and
Dia/Beacon...as in this amazing art center that was orginally the Nabisco box printing facility. 34,000 square feet of skylights that bath the place in natural light. (This is the only pic I took, totally forbidden, the rest are postcards I bought)
The windows at times make more interesting art than that I found on the walls...
but the Richard Serra pieces...well they are like hiking in the slot canyons of Utah. Breathtaking, monumental in every sense of the word.
I could have taken a really fabulous photo in this gallery if the docent was not hot on my trail. The windows that line the wall were throwing a perfect line of shadow windows across the entire length of the space...along the sculpture then following the floor.
monumental form
lost in these steel canyon walls
serendipitous
Just for you Rebecca...and Haiku my HeART!
It's going to be a busy travel summer, I will have lots of art to share.
It's pretty cool to think that Richard Serra's sculptures are in a small town gallery. I'm a fan of his, too. I wonder why you wouldn't be allowed to take photos in the gallery...? Seems odd, doesn't it? I can understand not using a flash with paintings or prints but metal sculptures...? Anyway, dems the rules. Thank you for taking us with you on the gallery trip and for sneaking in a couple pics for us to see.
Have a great holiday weekend, Stephanie.

What a gorgeous space. It is, itself, a work of art. I have to agree - the window is very enticing. Can you just imagine how the image would change as the light changed?
